Hundreds villagers flee fighting in Kachin’s Hpa-kant region

MYITKYINA----Due to the fighting between military [Tatmadaw] and combined force PDF and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) took place on the way to kanhse village in Hpa-kant region, Kachin State for three consecutive days starting from December 5th, hundreds of peoples already fled to the safer places, according to the locals.

The locals reported that the shootings occurred in the Kanhse village where there have been KIA regiments since the beginning of December 5th.

“On December 5th, there had been artillery shells which hit the communication hall in the compound of Hmawbon monastery. There are over 100 children living at the downstairs of communication hall. Both sides fired the small guns along the hill of western Hmawbon. The locals from Hmawbon and Hsankhar villages already fled to safer places. There had been artillery shells upon the villages on December 6th and 7th. The bullets of heavy weapons dropped around the villages. The villagers fled to the monasteries, churches and pagodas. No one sleep all night due to the gunshots,” said the locals.
