The historic Maw Tin Zun Pagoda Festival in Ayeyawady Region will be held beginning from March 10 according to sources.

“This year festival will start from March 10. It will be a 15 day long festival. On the first day, the opening ceremony will be held. There will be many shops at the festival. The festival lasts from the first waxing day of Taboung to the full moon day of Taboung. On the full moon day of Taboung, there will be rice donation ceremony to monks and closing ceremony,” said U Kyaw Swa Win, who is a clerk of Pagoda’s board of Trustee.

There will be more than 400 shops in the festival such as food stalls, clothing shops, fruit shops and shops selling local products. In Ngwe Taung, which is 30 minutes distant from Maw Tin Zun Pagoda, there will also be 200 shops. Pilgrims can take a bath there. Pilgrims usually go to the pagoda in the evening and in the day time, they go there. The pagoda festival is usually packed with pilgrims, he added.

Maw Tin Zun Pagoda is located 96 miles off the motorway from Pathein Township at the Cape of Mawtin Point in the south-westernmost mountain ranges in Ngaputaw Township of Pathein District in Ayeyawady Region. Pilgrims can go there both by motorway or waterway.
