Heavy rain causes landslide, tree falls in Myeik Township

Due to heavy rainfall, a landslide has occurred and trees have fallen down in Myeik Township, Taninthayi Region.

On the morning of September 5, a landslide occurred at the hillock where there is a monastery on lane 5 of Annawa ward in Kywegu village of Sandagu village tract, Myeik township.  The landslide fell on a house slightly damaging it. Six big trees and about ten coconut trees and betel trees fell down.

U San Oo, director of  Myeik District Fire Services Department,  responsible personnel and members of social welfare organizations went over to the place to clear the trees and render service. No one was injured.

Since the beginning of the month of August there have been heavy rains in Myeik, and in the lower areas there have been rising tides, landslides and tree falls.

A farmer working at his betel leaf plantation in Kalwin village died from a falling coconut tree. Small fishing boats faced difficulty going out to the sea due to heavy rains, strong winds and high waves.
