COVID-19 pandemic has caused hardships among poor people in Mandalay Region where some families are waiting for the donation for their daily livelihood. Migrant families living in 117 E Myayay Nanda housing and 45 street in Chan Mya Tharzi Township, Mandalay Region are now asking for alms for living.

In front of their squatter house, it was written like this. “As there are 33 unemployed workers living here, we are humbly asking for donations of rice, oil, salt, chili, onion and foodstuff”.

“As soon as COVID-19 pandemic broke out, our masonry works came to a stop. We are not among the list of work to continue work during these times. Now we are unable to go out and no work for us, we have decided to beg from people,” said a squatter Win Aung who once worked as a mason.

In Mandalay Region, over 5600 people who violated the stay at home rule were taken into action according to the district administrative office. The stay at home rule will last for 2 weeks, from December 5 to December 18.
