Gov’t will informally meet with NCA signatories in Chiang Mai

Government will be holding informal meeting with ten ethnic armed groups which had signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on March 9th, according to the NCA signatories.

The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) led by NCA signatories held two-day meeting in Chiang Mai, on March 5th and 6th and some delegates had informed the reporters of their meeting.

The PPST formed with top leaders of ethnic armed groups is to lead policy affairs in the peace process and it also was formed with the KNU, the RCSS, the DKBA, the KNU/KNLA-PC, the CNF and the ABSDF, the PNLA and the ALP in October in 2015.

Col.Sai Nguen, General Secretary-2 of Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) said that the government’s peace commission would meet with the Karen National Union (KNU) on March 8th before holding the informal meeting.

The peace commission offered the NCA signatories the holding of informal meeting which will aim to enjoy relationship between both sides, according to the Khaing Soe Naing Aung, vice-chariman of Arakan Liberation Army.

Moreover, the peace commission is now holding formal and informal meetings with the NCA and non-NCA signatories.
