The Union Election Commission announced on July 1 that Myanmar’s 2020 general election will be held on November 8.

The announcement also said that if any member of the Union government or any deputy minister is to be selected as a parliamentary candidate, they will be allowed to start party organizational tasks as of July 1.

Multi-party democracy general election is set to be held for respective parliaments—Lower House  and Upper House of Parliament and Region/State parliaments—on November 8, 2020 (Sunday), the UEC announced.

Myanmar is currently ran by the National League for Democracy (NLD), spearheaded by the State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, ever since they won the 2015 election by a landslide over other parties, especially the main opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party that ran the quasi-civilian adminstration before the NLD took over.
