French investors take interest to invest in Myanmar

French investors are interested in investing in the retail and wholesale sector, finance sector, loan sector and banking sector and cold-storage facilities sector, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Aung Htoo, Deputy Minister for Commerce, met with French Ambassador for Myanmar Christian Lechervy and delegation of MEDEF International (Mouvement des Entreprises de France) led by its Chairman Francois Corbin in the first week of February at the office of the Ministry of Commerce.

The deputy minister answered the questions asked by French entrepreneurs about the investment opportunities and trade in Myanmar. They discussed the investment in retail and wholesale, basic infrastructures such as roads, bridges and transport, finance and cold-storage facilities sectors. Both sides also discussed exporting wine produced from Myanmar, to control illegal trade and to implement to improve vehicle import policies and to promote trade and investment between Myanmar and France.

The French Ambassador said they came to Myanmar to promote economic cooperation between France and Myanmar and to collaborate to find new challenges in the economic sector.

It is a time to promote trade and investment to develop the economic sector, said Zaw Min Win, Chairman of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI).

He added France is a developed country in terms of manufacturing, science and technology innovations, and economy. French businessmen will work together to bring greater cooperation for the economic development of Myanmar.

Christian Lechervy said French businesses are eager to find partners in Myanmar for economic development that will benefit both countries.

The French delegation included 20 entrepreneurs in energy, water and sanitation, gas, food, water transportation, road transportation, and trading businesses.
