According to local reports, a former member of the Auxiliary Fire Brigade and People's Militia was shot this morning in the village of Yinnyeintaung, Paung Township, Mon State.
The victim is a 68-year-old man named U Kyar Gyi. When he was in his home in the hilly area of Yinnyeintaung Village, two men arrived on a motorcycle, one fired a gun at U Kyar Gyi and then drove away, said a local villager.
"He sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh. We learnt that there was no risk to his life, and he was sent to the Thaton District People’s Hospital though the Yinnyein Station Hospital" the local resident continued.
U Kyar Gyi had previously served as a member of the Yinnyeintaung Auxiliary Fire Brigade and as a member of the local people’s militia. But he already retired. He is currently helping clear the way for automobile safety for students.
The police stations, police officers, administrators, and local civilians in Mon State’s Paung Township have been frequently attacked. On September 7 also, a police checkpoint in the village of Yinnyein, was attacked with a homemade rocket launcher, local sources said.
