Former Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan transferred to Daik-U prison in Bago Region

Former Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan was transferred from Kyaikmayaw prison in Mon State to Daik-U prison in Bago Region in recent days according to sources close to prison.

A special court inside Mon State’s Kyaikmayaw prison has sentenced former Mon State chief minister, Dr. Aye Zan, to two years in prison for abuse of power in 2020 General Election on December 6. He was charged with two counts under Section 171(f) of the Penal Code and sentenced one year each for each count and transferred to prison in last week of December.

He was detained since February 1, 2021. He was detained in Kyaikmayaw prison in Mon State for nearly two years. Later, he was transferred to Daik-U prison in Bago Region.

Dr. Aye Zan is 68 years old. He was filed under Article 55 on nine cases and sentenced for 21 years. Moreover, he was also sentenced 2 years each under Section 505 (b) and Section 130 (a) totaling 27 years.
