Flooding occurred at Nanmon in Indawgyi , Kachin State

Heavy rain in Nanmon in Indawgyi , Kachin State caused flooding according to locals. 

Rain started since the evening of July 7 and water level at Nanmon River immediately increased in the early hours of July 8. Flooding occurred especially at the low lying areas. 

As the water direction in river changed, low lying areas were mostly affected especially in Kaesae area. The cause of the flooding was when constructing Nanmon-Hopin road, all the excess earth were thrown at the nearest creek. In the rainy season, they were flowed along the river and as a result, flooding occurred. Since the olden days, we got the same amount of rain like now,” said San Lin Soe from Nanmon. Some houses in the town were also flooded, he continued.

Due to heavy rain and torrent, flooding occurred. The measurement of rain is 0.15 inches in Moehnin and 2 inches in Nanmon. Southern Kachin State and upper Sagaing Region get heavy rain this year. The average rainfall is 40 percent above normal. It may concern with global climate change,” said U Than Win from Moehnin based Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Shweku Township in Bamaw District, Kachin State got record rainfall of 3.82 inches in an hour in June 30.
