Due to flooding, 18 schools in Laymyethnar Township, Ayeyawady Region, remain closed.

According to the Department of Education, Laymyethnar Township had to close as many as 37 schools during the initial flooding period.

A staff member from the Department of Education stated, "At the beginning of the flood, there were 37 schools closed in the entire township. Currently, some schools have been able to reopen, but there are still 18 schools that remain closed."

"The schools outside the embankment area were closed due to the rising river waters, while those in the inner area were closed due to rainwater accumulation and flooding. Schools that are able to reopen have already done so, but some remain closed. There are schools that have been unable to reopen for over two or three weeks," explained a headmaster.

In Laymyethnar Township, the danger level for the Ngawun River stands at 34 feet, with the current water level at 33.80 feet as of the measurement taken on August 6.
