Fire caused by intense fighting between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces and the Tatmadaw in the vicinity of Kawkareik town in Kayin State and on the side of Asia Road destroyed some office buildings and vehicles, injuring civilians, and many cargo trucks were stuck, according to locals of Kawkareik.
An official from the Kawkareik Pearl Phyu Social Relief Association said that the fighting between the two sides in Kawkareik town and surrounding areas and along Asia Road is fierce and there are some injured people, but they are unable to help and rescue them.
"The battle has been fierce since night at inside and outside of the town. It's more intense on Asia road. Although I heard that civilians were hurt, we could not go out to help. I'm sorry that the rescuer can't rescue them anymore. The team members are also living in safety," said Ko Htike, in-charge of Pearl Phyu Social Relief Association's.
A driver said that there were many cars and trucks stuck in Hlaingwa, the lotus circle and the foot of the mountain at the entrance of Kawkareik and a car caught fire near the industrial farm.
It is reported that there is a fierce fighting in Shwe Kyet Yet, Kyauk Sayik Kone and Thaye Gone villages near Kawkareik, and there are some villagers who managed to escape to safety, but many people are trapped in the middle of the fighting.
Also, between Hlaingwa Village and Htake Out Village of Kawkareik town, a lot of heavy and small arms fire were heard, according to locals.
It is reported that because of the fierce fighting around Kawkareik on Myawady border trade route, vehicles have temporarily stopped, and some trucks and some cars are traveling from the Htokawko road section.
