A jet fighter crashed into the Yaymyatgyi Lake in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, after about 10am today.

The military-run Myawady TV announced that connections with the military-owned fighter plane were lost at about 10.43 am on February 16 as it conducted its regular flying exercise from TataU Airbase. Another plane seared for the fighter and it was found to have crashed into the Yaymyatgyi Lake to the east of Ohndaw Village in Sagaing Region. The crash is supposed to be a mechanical failure. The search is still going on for the missing pilot. Currently, members of the township Fire Brigade and Red Cross Society and social organizations are carrying out search and recuse tasks. A human body has been found, according to initial reports.

The incident happened in the western part of the lake between Kyaukpanan and Padu villages. The place is inaccessible by road. Motorboats are being used for rescue work. Currently, a body has been found. This time, the lake has lots of water as well as mud, said a rescue member.
