On the evening of July 16, a series of explosions occurred at Kayinlayseik Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Thaton Township, according to local sources. The bridge, measuring approximately 10 feet in length and 54 feet in width, is situated between mileposts 134/6 and 134/7 on the highway.

One local reported, "I heard three explosions last night around 10:30 pm. Initially, we thought they were at Kyonaik Bridge, but we later found out they were at Kayinlayseik Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway."

The blast caused significant damage, rendering the bridge completely inaccessible to large vehicles and stranding around 100 vehicles on both sides. "Some small cars are using the village roads as a detour, but due to the rain, these roads are muddy. If large vehicles try to pass, they risk damaging and blocking the roads further," added the resident.

Kayinlayseik Bridge is located between Kyonaik Bridge and Ma Saw Bridge, as confirmed by local residents.

A source close to the Thaton District Road Department mentioned that the department, along with the ShweThanlwin Highway Company, plans to repair the bridge promptly. "Given that it's a small bridge, the repair strategy involves placing a pipe at the bottom and covering it with ground material," he explained.

This incident follows a similar attack on June 29, 2023, when combined forces of the KNU and PDF destroyed the Kyonaik Bridge between mileposts 131/6 and 131/7 on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, resulting in one side of the bridge collapsing. Three cars were destroyed in that blast, with two falling into the creek, leading to one fatality and one injury.

Furthermore, the Kyonaik Bridge was targeted again on May 11, leading to the destruction of the remaining side of the bridge. On May 23, the Ma Saw Bridge, measuring 106 feet in length and 24 feet in width, was also hit by an explosion, causing two-thirds of the bridge to collapse into the creek. Three motorcycles fell into the creek during this incident, resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to one man and two women, according to local relief associations.
