Drugs worth over Ks144 billion destroyed on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The 36th Anniversary of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was marked today in the old airport field in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay Region, in conjunction with a ceremony to incinerate the seized narcotic drugs worth over 144 billion kyats.

Moreover, the seized controlled chemicals were buried in Kyanigan (Aye Yeik Nyein) in Patheingyi Township today.

Those destroyed narcotics and controlled chemicals were confiscated by combined teams of local police forces, anti-drug squads, their relevant departments and railway police forces in Kachin State, Chin State, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region and Nay Pyi Taw. 

A total of 34 kinds of narcotics and chemicals including psychotropic substances seized in 1,750 cases were destroyed. They were worth 144.99812 billion kyats (US$69.0467 million). 

 During the event, authorities made speeches, read messages and briefed on the destruction of the seized drugs. Commemorative painting, cartoon, poster and computer paining contests were also held.
