Lt-Col Saw Wai Htoo, the commander of 909 battalion of The Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) (NCA) in Kawkayeik, Kachin State was shot dead at about 7.30 pm on October 5.

Lt-Col Saw Wai Htoo, the commander of 909 battalion of The Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) (NCA), was shot dead at his house No 637, the second street in Chaungtaung ward in Kawkayeik. He was shot by an unnamed gunman with AK-47.

“The incident occurred at about 7.30 pm. The gunman looks quite fat. He was wrapping the garment and he took out the gun and shot the commander and the commander sustained five bullet shots. It seems very horrible,” said Naw Aye Hmu.

The gunmen ran away immediately, and nearby securities were in hot pursuit, but the gunman could not be arrested.

In connection with the case, the DKBA will cooperate with the police and Tatmadaw in order to the immediate arrest of the gunman, said Lt-Gen Saw Steel, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the DKBA.
