Disqualified parliamentary candidate Daw Thet Thet Khaing files two petitions to UEC

Daw Thet Thet Khine, who was disqualified from being a parliamentary candidate, has submitted two petitions to the Union Election Commission (UEC).

On the evening of October 21, the UEC notified Daw Thet Thet Khine that she was not allowed to contest as a parliamentary candidate under Section 8(d) of the Union Election Commission Law.

“I have submitted a petition to the commission. On October 19, I was issued a parliamentary candidate identification card. On the evening of October 21, I was informed that it was disqualified. On October 24, I submitted the petition in letter,” said Daw Thet Thet Khine, chairwoman of the People’s Pioneer Party.

In addition, Daw Thet Thet Khine said that she had already paid off a debt of five billion kyats to KBZ Bank, and that she would then submit another petition.

"On October 30, I deposited five billion kyats into the KBZ Bank, and I honestly did not deny the obligation to pay. After all, I submitted a letter to the UEC immediately after depositing the money, stating that I deposited such a large amount of money into the KBZ Bank in such a short period of time because I wanted to participate in this election. I submitted two letters," she said.

Daw Thet Thet Khaing said that she has resigned from the board of directors of two family-owned companies to pursue political activities.

"Politics is full of conflicts. However, in order not to affect the family business, I have already left two family companies listed in DICA since the first half of 2021. As a shareholder, I have given up my shares and I have resigned. However, when I took out a business loan from the bank, it was signed by me and Ko Aung Kyaw Win, so I did not cancel it. Since I am running a large business, a bank loan is not something that can be resolved overnight," she said.

Dr. Thet Thet Khaing has submitted an application to contest the upcoming election from the Yangon Region, No.2 Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency, which includes Bahan, Kamaryut, Ahlone, Sanchaung, Kyimyindaing, Hlaing, Mayangone and North Okkalapa townships.
