The Department for International Development (DFID) is going to continue providing assistance to the health sector in Myanmar, said Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe of the Ministry of Health and Sports in his meeting with the DFID in Nay Pyi Taw on October 5.
Ms. Baroness, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development of Department for International Development (DFID), and party said they came to Myanmar to know the situations as to the assistance to be provided by Department for International Development (DFID). They made field trips to the relief camps in Rakhine State to know the current situations of the operations run by UK Aid Programme. They visited Sittwe People’s Hospital and studied medical treatments in accord with medical ethics and the matters relating to the drafting Master Plan. The DFID would continue providing assistance to the health sector of Myanmar.
Dr. Myint Htwe said about progress of work and future tasks.
The assistances provided by the DFID to ethnic health organizations through Access to Health Funds are good measures. The ministry is working together with ethnic health organizations in regions and states. The matters relating to capacity building for ethnic health organisations will be carried out, said Dr. Myint Htwe.
The international community recognizes the success and the fighting against HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. Moreover, with the assistance of Gavi, vaccination campaigns are being conducted with added momentum. Thank the DFID for the plan to go on providing assistance to the health sector of Myanmar, said Dr. Myint Htwe.
Healthcare services jointly organized by Access to Health Fund and the Ministry of Health and Sports are being carried out in 144 townships in eight states and regions from 2019 to 2023.
“The Access to Health Fund assisted US$ 215 million to the ministry and INGOs to be spent on healthcare services to be provided to the people from the different parts of the country. These assistances are much more useful to the country, said an official of the ministry.
