YANGON- A low pressure area occurring in north Andaman Sea changes will shift into a depression today and crossed over Deltaic regions, impacting the Yangon Region.

According to observations made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) yesterday evening, the low pressure area over the North Andaman Sea will be crossing the deltaic areas within 18 hours.

The DMH also forecasts it will move onto North-Northwest direction.

Due to the Low Pressure Area, there may be heavy rains in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi Regions as well as Kayah, Kayin, Rakhine and Mon States within the next 18 hours.

The DMH also reported that occasional squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. The surface wind speed in squalls may reach (40)m.p.h. Wave height will be about (9-12)feet off and along Myanmar Coasts.

“A low pressure happening in north of Bay of Bengal can change into a depression within next 18 hours. It will be crossing over Deltaic regions within next 36 hours and will enter to middle-east of Bay of Bengal. We expected that the depression would pass over the coastal regions on October 23rd. When it will pass over the deltaic areas, the wind speed may be 40 miles per hour. Although it had passed over the Ayeyawady Region, Yangon Region may see impacts from the depression,” said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director-General of DMH.

The DMH already warned the ships and fishing vessels along Myanmar coastal regions of the possible dangers from the depression.

A small storm happening in the Gulf of Thailand on October 20th had passed over Taninthayi Region, Mon and Kayin States through the Thailand.

It has already re-entered to Andaman Sea after changing into a low pressure area.

Due to a small storm in the Gulf of Thailand, there may be heavy rains in seven regions and states including Yangon within the next 24 hours.
