Curfew hours reduced in Yangon

Yangon—Yangon Region government has changed the curfew hours from 10 pm- 4 am to midnight-4 am starting 15 May, said Daw Moe Moe Su Kyi, Yangon Region Minister for Immigration and Human Resources.

As a measure to control the spread of COVID-19, the region government imposed a nighttime curfew from 10 pm to 4 am in mid-April.

U Nay Win, a local from South Dagon Township said: “The curfew hour is too early as it starts at 10 pm. Vendors and workers go home at the said time. The reduction of curfew hour is ok for all people as it starts from the midnight.”

The authorities have taken action against those who defy the curfew.

So far, there have been 182 confirmed cases and six deaths nationwide.

A total of 146 COVID-19 cases are reported in 28 townships of Yangon. In addition, five deaths are reported in Yangon.

Yangon Region tops the list of total confirmed cases. Most of the cases are reported in Insein Township in Yangon, accounting for more than 30 per cent of total confirmed cases, according to the figures of Ministry of Health and Sports.
