The Committee for Shan State Unity (CSSU) has called on all like-minded organizations to work together in accord with the norms and standards of federal democracy and human rights during the period of struggle for building a federal democratic union.
The CSSU made the calls in a statement issued on Shan National Human Rights Day that fell on June 16.
In the statement, the committee wished on such a significant day for all the people living in Shan State, the whole union and the world to fully enjoy fundamental rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of press, freedom of living, right to property and right to survival.
The CSSU is seeking ways of negotiation to reduce or end fighting between Shan armed revolution groups and fighting between ethnic armed groups within Shan State, the statement said.
The CSSU will be cooperating with relevant organizations so that local people displaced by fighting in Shan, Kachin, Karenni (Kayah) and Kayin states can return home with dignity and cannot lose their basic human rights, the statement added.
The CSSU is formed with Shan armed groups in Shan State namely the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA), Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA), Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) and Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) and Shan civil society organizations.
