Myanmar’s Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 30 in Tianjin, China, during his official visit at Xi’s invitation.

At the meeting, President Xi expressed appreciation for Myanmar’s participation in the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 and the 80th anniversary commemorations of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japan and World Anti-Fascist War. The two sides also discussed peace efforts in Myanmar, enhancing trade, cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, use of natural resources, assistance after the recent Mandalay earthquake, and preparations for Myanmar’s multi-party general election scheduled for December 28, 2025.

President Xi reiterated opposition to foreign interference in Myanmar’s politics, emphasized strengthening China-Myanmar strategic cooperation, and expressed support for Myanmar’s upcoming election and its aspiration to become a full SCO member.
