Mr. Deng Xijun, Special Representative for Asian Affairs for Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, arrived in Mongla town in Special Region (4) of Shan State (Eastern) and met with the leaders of the National Democratic Alliance Army-Mongla (NDAA) on February 20, according to CNI news agency.
Mr. Deng Xijun met and discussed with NDAA’s Peace and Unity Committee vice-chairmen U San Pei and U Sam Lu, but it is not known what topics were discussed.
Currently, the NDAA met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and peace negotiation team of the SAC to discuss the peace processes and signed agreements with the ethnic armed group.
The NDAA is also a member of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC), which includes is the United Wa State Army (UWSA), Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP), Kachin Independence Army (KIA), Arakan Army (AA), Ta’ang (Palaung) National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA).
Mr. Deng Xijun arrived in Myanmar on December 29, 2022 after being appointed as the replacement of Mr. Sun Guoxiang, and met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in Nay Pyi Taw.
In that meeting, they discussed issues related to Myanmar's political development and change, conducting peace talks with the ethnic armed groups for the stability of the country, the assistance in the peace process, the standing of China at Myanmar's side on the international front, Chinese continuous assistance in humanitarian issues, China's investments for the development of Myanmar and the promotion of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by the SAC's Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin and officials attended, as well as officials from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, along with the ambassador from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
