Chief of Staff (Air) Lieutenant General Tun Aung has been appointed as Commander-in-Chief (Air) of Myanmar after his predecessor General Maung Maung Kyaw has completed his service, said General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of the State Administration Council (SAC).

“According to our military protocol, he (General Maung Maung Kyaw) will remain as SAC member. His chief of staff has become Commander-in-Chief (Air). It was just like the way Admiral Moe Aung became Commander-in-Chief (Navy) after his predecessor Admiral Tin Aung San ended his service of duty,” the spokesman said.

General Maung Maung Kyaw started serving as Commander-in-Chief (Air) in January 2018, and his four-year service has now ended.  

Despite of the completion of his service, he would remain as SAC member, General Zaw Min Tun added.

“He will not be pensioned off. He has yet to reach retirement age. His service as commander-in-chief has completed. He will remain as SAC member,” the spokesperson said.

He also confirmed that SAC Secretary Lieutenant General Aung Lin Dway had been allowed to retire as Advocate General and a new appointment was made.

In recent days, reports emerged that Aung Lin Dway retired from his army post.

Despite his retirement as Advocate General, he would remain as SAC secretary, General Zaw Min Tun added.
