Heavy rain flooded Sapamyauk creek in the town of Aunglan, Magway Region, washing away a six-year-old student on September 28 evening, according to local sources.

Authorities rushed to the scene to rescue the boy, but he remains unfound till the morning of September 29.

"The creek usually dries up. It is flooded only when it rains heavily. He was washed away by the current. He lived by the bank of the creek. First he and his mother were thrown out by the current. But his mother could be saved by nearby people. The township fire brigade also did rescue work. But he could not be found," said a local resident.

The boy named Aung Min Khant was a first grader attending basic education high school (Ywahtaung).

The creek which flows to the Ayeywady River is about 10 feet wide. When it was flooded, its depth was about six feet.
