Official import through the Myawady border trade camp decreases this year but total trade value in 11 months of this fiscal year has exceeded US$50.681 million due to increasing exports, according to sources from the ministry of commerce.

Among Myanmar's border trade camps, Myawady camp is the largest importer of Thai goods. From October 1 to August 30 in the current 2018-2019 fiscal year, Myawady border trade camp imported goods worth US$681.792 million falling by US$57.040 million compared to the same period of last year.

However, goods worth US$194.384 million were exported to Thailand exceeding US$112.721 million.

Following China's increased tax on Myanmar's corn, local merchants shift to their corns Thailand. Those corns went to Thailand from February to August paving the way for Myanmar to see  increased export to Thailand.

Thin Thin Myat, chairperson of Myawady Border Trade Association, said export increased as they had the chance to export corn to Thailand. She added that efforts would be made to export other agricultural products.

"After corn, mung bean, broken rice, onion, soybean, sesame, groundnut and potato will come. To export them, we reached G to G agreement in May 2018. They also import us. So we should be allowed to export agricultural products," said Thin Thin Myat.

Total trade value via Myawady border trade camp reached US$876.176 million from October 1, 2018 to August 30, 2019, exceeding US$55.681 million compared to the same period of last fiscal year.
