A total of 16 pistols and ammunition were seized from a passenger at Nyaung Khashwe X-ray machine checkpoint in Waw Township, Bago Region, sources said.
The weapons and ammunition were seized from Ko Ko Naing aka Ko Naing lived in Bayar Thonezu Town, Kya-in-Seikkyi Township, Kayin State at around 6:30 pm on October 23.
There were 16 pistols, 32 magazines, 390 rounds of 9mm Luger bullets and 140 rounds of 380 auto ammunition, wrapped in lead papers in a backpack with a Sport logo clipped between his legs of the person, were discovered and seized, according to a person closed to the security forces.
Ko Ko Naing aka Ko Naing confessed that he was been given 20,000 baht to send the weapons and ammunition to Mandalay by Thet Paing Oo from Bayar Thonezu Town, according to a person closed to the security forces.
He continued, “The perpetrator left Bayar Thonezu Town for Mawlamyine Town in a taxi on October 21, then stayed for two nights at Nawarat guesthouse in Mawlamyine Town. He was arrested while traveling from Mawlamyine to Mandalay onboarding the Yazar Aung passenger vehicle in the evening of October 23.”
A person close to the security group said that the perpetrator confessed when he arrived at the Kywe Se Kan bus terminal, he need to contact Thet Paing Oo to deliver the weapons and ammunition according to his plan.
It is reported that Ko Ko Naing aka Ko Naing, who was arrested along with the weapons and ammunitions, has been prosecuted in accordance with the law and that the chain of accused is also being investigated.
