In a coordinated effort, security forces apprehended eight individuals involved in violent attacks, seizing firearms and explosives, according to the sources.
At night of September 26, 2024, U Zaw Min Htun, a ward administrator from Insein Township, Yangon Region, was shot dead near a roadside teashop on Mingalardon Road (lower), Aung San Ward, Insein.
U Tin Zaw Oo, a ward administrator from Ward 11, Hlaingtharyar (West) Township, and his wife were fatally shot at the intersection of Magway Road and Shwe Wutt Mon Road in Ward 9, Hlaingtharyar Township on the morning of December 5, 2024.
On the morning of December 30, 2024, an explosion caused by planted mines occurred in Kyun Taw (Central) Ward, Sanchaung Township, damaging six vehicles, two household generators, and several business signs.
Following investigations, arrests were made at various locations on January 1, 2025. Key suspects included: Win Khant Ko Ko @ Hngekalay@ Shinewana@ Aung Zaya detained in Hlaingthayar (West), Tin Win Hlaing @ Ah Nge Lay arrested at his residence in Ward 10, Hlaingthayar, Myint Myint @ James apprehended at a betel nut shop in Ward 9, Hlaingthayar.
Further interrogation led to the identification and arrest of accomplices involved in planning, supplying funds, and providing weapons and explosives.
Under interrogation, suspects disclosed: the mastermind behind the attacks was Yan Naing Htet @ Lucifer, assisted by Htun Naing Soe @ Bee Kje in funding and supplying materials.
Weapons used included pistols, ammunition, and handmade bombs, confiscated during raids in various locations, including a warehouse in Mingaladon Township. Authorities seized a significant cache of weapons and explosive materials, including: multiple pistols, ammunition, and grenades.
Equipment used in the manufacturing of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), such as detonators, wires, and remote controls.
The arrested suspects revealed links to other perpetrators still at large, such as Min San (alias Myo Oo) and Ko Htun from Bago, who allegedly orchestrated and executed the attacks. Authorities are pursuing these individuals and conducting further investigations.
The concerted efforts of security forces aim to dismantle the network behind these crimes, ensuring public safety and bringing all culprits to justice.
