In the early morning hours of January 31, it was reported by local residents that a bridge located on the Bilin-Natkyi-Phapon road, between Yinohn and Kyarkwin villages in Bilin Township, Mon State, was destroyed by a mine blast.

The bridge, identified as number (1/11), which spans over 30 feet, is located between mileposts (1/10) and (2/10) along the Bilin-Natkyi-Phapon road. A local resident reported that it was destroyed by an armed group using landmines.

The resident added, “Since the mine explosion destroyed the bridge, both the floor and the supporting beams have collapsed. Currently, vehicles and motorcycles can no longer cross the bridge.”

It is believed that the destruction of the bridge was to prevent military forces from reaching the area, as fierce fighting has been ongoing near the Mepali village in Bilin Township. This is further confirmed by the same local resident.

The bridge, located on the Bilin-Natkyi-Phapon road, is an important structure, and due to the mine explosion, over 20 villages, including Natkyi, Lawngsawlawt, Pyintha, Melan, and Shwe Laung Inn, are facing difficulties in traveling for healthcare, education, and economic matters, as reported by local residents.

Additionally, it was reported that the Pyin That bridge near Pyin Thar village on the Bilin-Natkyi-Phapon road was also destroyed by a mine blast on March 6, 2024, and the Ka Nyin Pin Bridge was similarly attacked on May 6, 2024, according to information from local residents.
