Acting President U Myint Swe, former President U Thein Sein, retired senior military officers attend briefing on Maravijaya Buddha Image construction in Nay Pyi Taw

A ceremony to explain the progress in erecting the Maravijaya Buddha Image, which will become the tallest stone Buddha statue in a seated posture in the world, in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, took place on July 16, state-run newspapers reported.

Present at the ceremony were Pro Tem President U Myint Swe and wife Daw Khin Thet Htay, Chairman of State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is the main donor of the Buddha Image, and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Former President U Thein Sein, retired senior military officers and their wives, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and wife, union ministers, chief ministers of the regions and states, senior military officers from the Office of Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and their wives, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander and officials.

The SAC chair explained the progress in erecting the Maravijaya Buddha Image.

Then, an additional program followed as those present wanted to make cash donations for the Maravijaya Buddha Image and Park construction project. The Senior General expressed thanks to the donors after accepting the collective cash donations.

The attendees then viewed the scale models of the Maravijaya Pagoda and the Park, Pitaka treatises in Pali and Roman languages and tablet records. Afterwards, the Senior General and wife and attendees collectively planted Lumbaini Ingin trees.

The attendees then looked around the Image and the Park.
