The repair work of the Goteik Viaduct, which was damaged by the insurgents’ landmines, and the necessary measures for the safety of the bridge need to be carried out systematically, said Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SPSC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

On the evening of October 2, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected the construction project of the PyinOoLwin Railway Station and the 6-storey high-end market at Thu Mingalar Market (Nyantaw Market) and he made the following remarks while giving instructions on the status of the repair work being carried out between the bridge pier 16 and pier 2 at the Goteik-Nawng Pein bridge, which was damaged by the insurgents’ landmines, by replacing them with new steel frames in accordance with the original design in order to restore the PyinOoLwin-Nawnhkio-Goteik-Kyaukme railway section on the Mandalay-Lashio railway.

The repair work of the Goteik Bridge, which was damaged by the insurgents’ mines, and the necessary measures for the safety of the bridge need to be carried out systematically. Similarly, when carrying out repairs according to the railway sections, it is necessary to calculate the system to ensure that the trains can run safely and smoothly. The stones needed for the railway should also be added in accordance with the specifications. The strength of the bridges along the railway section should be reviewed and necessary repairs and maintenance should be carried out, said Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

It is necessary to carry out preparatory work to ensure that trains can run smoothly when the railway section reopens. It is necessary to use coal-fired locomotives on the PyinOoLwin- Goteik-Nawng Bein railway section to attract domestic and international travellers. There is a need to increase the number of Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay passenger trains during the upcoming Thadingyut public holidays, he said.

Then, the Acting President and members visited the construction project of Thu Mingalar Market (Nyantaw Market) in PyinOoLwin, and Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung explained the progress of the project.

In response to the explanations, the SSPC Chairman said that the construction of this new high-end market was carried out with the aim of creating a high-end market that is in line with the increasing population and tourism in PyinOoLwin, and to provide local and basic goods in one place. It is needed to create a high-end market that is in line with urban development. After all construction work is completed, it is necessary to strictly monitor the orderliness of the shops, pay attention to cleanliness, and ensure that water and electricity systems are in order, and provide guidance on other necessary matters.
