About $110 m earned from the export of over 370,000 tons of rice, broken rice in a month

Myanmar has earned about US$110 million from exporting rice and broken rice over a month of this fiscal year with over 85 percent exported through maritime route, according to figures from Myanmar Rice Federation. 

From October 1 to November 8 in the current 2019-2020 financial year, 374,635.444 tons of rice and broken rice worth US$108.588 million were exported. 

Separately, 251,671.194 tons of rice worth over US$76 million went to 37 countries and 122,964.250 tons of broken rice worth nearly US$32 million to 27 countries. 

Myanmar exports rice to and European Union and African countries through maritime trade. Meanwhile, rice goes to China through Muse border trade camp. 

During the one-month period, over US$93 million was earned from the export of about 320,000 tons of rice and broken rice through maritime trade accounting for over 85 percent of the total export. 

Moreover, over US$14 million was earned from export of 55,000 tons of rice and broken rice through border trade camps accounting for 15 percent of the total export. 

In the previous 2018-2019 FY, 2.355 tons of rice and broken rice worth US$709.693 million were exported. 

In 2017-2018 FY, the country exported nearly 3.6 million tons of rice and broken rice  reaching record high in over 50 years. 

Myanmar Rice Federation issued a statement on May 18 this year saying that the federation was taking appropriate measures to solve the problem of low paddy prices and the difficulties facing the farmers in harvest time.
