Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on its monthly report issued on December 10 stated that new administration must work for land reclamation issues, workers and students issues and political issues besides working for national reconciliation.

“In our country, land reclamation issues are too many to solve. Concerning with workers, there are many problems. When you look at political prisoners, they still exist till to date. Therefore, new administration must pay special attention to solve these problems,” said Aung Myo Kyaw, Yangon Office in charge.

Although there are many things in many sectors to be solved, AAPP is urging the new administration to work for where they are emphasizing, he added. Moreover, working for getting every citizen’s rights must be implemented, he continued.

There are 35 political prisoners till the end of November and 199 are still facing their charges in prisons and 356 are facing law suits outside of prisons according to AAPP’s November report.

In November, 12 were being charged and 227 were arrested by military and police while 5 were sentenced according to AAPP.

According to these arrests, freedom of speech is still declining and those who practiced human rights faced oppression according to AAPP.

Two from Students Union were sentenced under Section 505 (b) with one year sentence each while Thinzar Than Min from No-235 Infantry Regiment in Kakkoku also sentenced under Section 505 (a), and Zeya Lwin from Daung Dot Myosat (Peacock Generation) and one civilian from Bago Region were charged with 66 (d) according to AAPP.

AAPP urges the government immediate release of those in prisons and arrested as they have signed International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and practiced it.
