A four-engined turboprop transport aircraft Antonov AN-12 from Ukraine International Airline (UIA) made an emergency landing at Yangon International Airport (YIA) on October 11 due to a mechanical failure, according to sources from the aviation community.

The transport aircraft was flying from New Delhi International Airport in India to U-Tapao International Airport in Thailand before having to make an emergency landing at the YIA.

The fourth engine of the Antonov AN-12 experienced failure and the pilot made a request to the air traffic control tower of the YIA in order to make an emergency landing at the airport.

The air traffic control tower accepted the emergency landing and engineers from the UIA were sent to Yangon to repair its engine.

“The transport aircraft made an emergency landing at Yangon International Airport at 3:30 pm and now the aircraft is parked at the airport,” said Deputy Director General Ye Htut Aung from Department for Civil Aviation (DCA).

A cargo plane from United States made an emergency landing at the YIA due to fire alarm from the container carrying 175.7 tons of Lithium Ion Battery on February 28.

The United Parcel Service Co. Ltd owned cargo plane made the emergency landing at the airport while heading from Hong Kong International Airport, China to Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A passenger plane from Oman Airways made an emergency landing at Yangon International Airport on April 24 due to an ill female passenger from Philippines. The plane was en route from Muscat, Oman to Manila, Philippines.
