YANGON-88 Generation and other political generations may participate in the People’s Party as candidates for the upcoming 2020 General Election, says Ye Naing Aung, General Secretary of the People's Party.

Chairman Ko Ko Gyi and other leaders of the so-called 8888 student uprising formed the People’s Party in August 2018.

“In accordance with our basic principal, we are now striving to joy all people from various fields at our party. It means that not only 88 generations but also all new generations can participate in our party,” said Ye Naing Aung.

About 100 candidates of the People's Party will compete in the upcoming general election 2020. Now, the party is carrying out the scrutinizing activities of candidates representing the relevant townships, according to Ye Naing Aung.

Ye Naing Aung also said that the announcement whether some party leaders including Chairman Ko Ko Gyi will compete or not will be issued after the announcement of candidates.

He added that candidates will be chosen in July.

When the People's Party was established, chairman Ko Ko Gyi and party leaders said allied relations would be built with ethnic parties.

In the past, the People’s Party had strived to establish a party namely 8888 Party in 2017. However, they changed their party names such as 8888 People’s Party and People’s Party because some denied the use of 8888 words.

Myanmar will hold a general election in late 2020. According to the Union Election Commission, some parties are preparing for election while some have publicized their election manifestos.
