Fifty votes were mistakenly cast for the lower house of parliament instead of the upper house at Polling Station No (2) in Pyinmana.

The incident happened at about 10 am on November 8 (today) at Polling Station No (2) at the BEHS No (1) in Pyinmana.

“When I cast my vote. I found U Than Soe Aung in the place of the upper house. I told the polling officer about this. When we checked, we found that it was green for the lower house. It was blue for the upper house. Only a book was mistaken. The ballot paper book has 50 papers. When we were informed about it, they said they would solve the problem,” said one voter Naing Win.

Polling officer Aung Kyaw San said he would report to the commission at various levels about the wrong voting.

“We have scrutinized it. One book was mistaken. It has 50 ballot papers. It was an honest mistake. Rooms for lower and upper houses are separate. This book was in the room for the upper house. My deputy polling officer failed to check it. It is just an unintentional mistake. We will report it, the commission will decide,” he said.

Union Territory Election Sub-commission member Moe Zaw said any decision had not come yet over the incident.

Pyinmana Township in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory has 134,603 eligible voters. The National League for Democracy, Union Solidarity and Development Party, National United Democratic Party, Union Betterment Party and People’s Pioneer Party are contesting the election.
