Mae Sot, Thailand – Twenty-six Myanmar nationals attempting to illegally enter Bangkok with the help of human traffickers were arrested at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Mae Sot on the night of January 29, according to reports.

The arrests took place at the Huai Hin Phun security checkpoint, which is part of an intensified border security effort across five districts, including Mae Sot, to prevent illegal crossings.

Authorities discovered the group hidden inside a cargo truck used for transporting rice. Upon inspection, the individuals failed to present valid travel documents, leading to their arrest. Reports indicate that each person had paid 15,000 Thai baht in advance to traffickers for the journey to Bangkok.

In a separate incident on the morning of January 29, another 21 Myanmar nationals were apprehended in Phop Phra District while attempting a similar illegal entry.

All arrested individuals have been transferred to the relevant police stations for further legal action in accordance with Thai immigration laws.
