A landslide occurred in Aung Thit Lwin Ward, western Mogok Township, PyinOoLwin District, Mandalay Region, at about 6.25am on August 24, killing 11 people, according to the township Red Cross Society.  

Four homes were buried beneath the landslide caused by heavy rain. Receiving information that 14 people went missing, officials concerned, members of the township fire service department, auxiliary fire brigade, Red Cross, Parami and Lawka Hita aid organizations and Mogok Rescue and local people rushed to the scene and carried out search and rescue works.  

In the afternoon, five bodies were recovered and three rescued. Then, six more bodies were found at about 4.30pm, said an official from Mogok Township Red Cross Society.

One home was totally buried beneath the landslide caused by heavy rain. Eight people were there. We had to use a backhoe. A total of four houses were destroyed. At about 4.20pm, all the dead bodies were recovered. Eleven people died and three were injured, he said.  

Mogok has experienced heavy rain, flooding and landslides this month with reports of some casualties.
