10 of temporarily closed schools in Chaunghnakhwa region in Kyaikmaraw Township reopen

Of the basic education schools that had been temporarily closed due to battles that started from 10 November in Chaunghnakhwa region in Kyaikmaraw Township, 10 schools have reopened since November 20,  according to a source close to the Township Education Department.

The schools that have reopened are High School (Taungalay) in Taungalay Sanpya village, High School in Mikathit village, Middle School in Phanom village, Middle School in Kayinhlaing village, Primary School in Thayetkon village, Primary School in Taungalay Sanpya village, Primary School in Shwewachaung village, Primary School in Phanom village, and Primary School in Taungalay Sanpya village.

The source also said that as the situation in the region is a bit stable, some schools were reopened, and that arrangements are being made to reopen the remaining schools depending upon the situation in the region.

The number of students in the ten basic education schools that have reopened is 3919.

Due to the battles that had started since 10 November in Chaunghnakhwa, Kyaikmaraw Township, 35 schools in Chaungunakhwa village and nearby villages had closed temporarily from 13 November.

 Due to ongoing battles, thousands of local residents from eight villages had to flee from their homes, and at least 10 houses in Chaunghnakhwa village were burnt down, and on the morning of November 17, the Attaran bridge (Chaunghnakhwa) was mined and destroyed by the combined forces of KNU, KNLA, KTLA and PDF, according to local sources.

 Besides the deaths of two eight-year old girls from Pawlawkon village, Kyaikmaraw Township, in the battles, two other children were injured due to falling and exploding of heavy artillery shells in Merthwaygon village.

The local residents said that since November 19, there had been no shootings within the Chaunghnakhwa region, Kyaikmaraw Township.
