Cargo vessel caught fire at Kawthoung port injuring three crews

A fire broke out on a cargo vessel that was going to send food to Pearl Island (Ngalone Latphae) at Kawthoung Port, and three crews were injured, sources said.

A cargo vessel docked near the Shwe Watwon Bridge in Kawthoung City, Tanintharyi Region caught fire at 4:45 am on February 2, and more than a hundred chickens and food on the boat were also lost in the fire.

It is reported that while the helmsman, U Moe Htike Zin, was sleeping on the vessel named Grand Adaman Whale Shark owned by Pyae Sone Htet Myint Company, which was planned to deliver food to Pearl Island (Ngalone Latphae), the three boatmen were cooking rice with a gas stove, and the gas leaked and caught fire.

Firefighters led by Assistant Director U Zin Tun, Head of Kawthoung District Fire Services Department, went to put out the fire and extinguished the fire at around 8:00 am. It is reported that five diesel containers, food and 125 broilers were lost in the fire, and the bow of the cargo vessel was also damaged by fire.

Three crews were injured (not seriously) in the fire. It is reported that the helmsman has been charged under Section-285/338 of the Penal Code at Kawthoung Township police station.
