Three people were injured and several homes and buildings were damaged after heavy rain and strong winds struck Phaauk, Kyainn and Yoego villages in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, causing trees to fall, according to local rescue organisations.

At around 7:30 pm on 2 November, strong winds and heavy rain caused trees to fall onto and damage three houses: one in old Yoego village, another in the Kalatan Ward of Kyainn village, and a third opposite the MAX fuel station in Kyainn village.

In addition, a tree in the compound of Mawlamyine Government Technical College (GTC) in Kyainn village was struck by lightning and fell onto a school building, causing damage, a rescue worker said.

He added that trees also fell along the entrance road to Phaauk Tawya Monastery, in the central part of Kyainn village and inside Khrawm village. In Yoego village, a fallen tree struck a transformer near a pagoda, damaging and breaking electrical wires.

Trees also fell onto houses and dormitory buildings within the compound of Mawlamyine Technological University near Phaauk village.

A woman residing in the Mawlamyine GTC compound and two men from the Kalatan Ward of Kyainn village sustained injuries. Rescue teams transported the three injured people to Phaauk Township Hospital for medical treatment, the rescue worker said.

In response to the damage caused by the heavy rain and strong winds, Mawlamyine District and Mawlamyine Township fire stations deployed two command vehicles and seven fire engines, along with regular and auxiliary firefighters. Rescue organisations from Mawlamyine and Mudon townships also carried out emergency assistance, rescue and clearance operations throughout the night.
