Three of the 23 basic education schools temporarily closed due to flooding in Tanintharyi Township, Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region, have reopened as the river water has receded, according to reports.

Measurements taken at 9 a.m. on October 6 showed that the Tanintharyi River had fallen to 15 feet 8 inches. Of the 23 basic education schools that had been temporarily closed after floodwaters entered the premises, three schools — Basic Education High School (BEHS) Mawtone, BEHS (Branch) Chaunglamu and Basic Education Primary School (BEPS) Tague — have now reopened.

It was also reported that classes missed during the school closures will be made up on Sundays and public holidays.

As the river water receded, relevant authorities jointly carried out cleanup operations in Chaunggyi Ward, Shwe Leikphyar Road, Extension-1 Road, Extension-2 Road and Football Ground Road, using two fire engines and two garbage collection vehicles to clear debris and silt left behind by the flooding.

Meanwhile, 546 households, comprising 2,478 people, remain at nine temporary relief camps opened since September 29 due to the rising river water. Relevant authorities are continuing to monitor the river water levels.
