Some jetties along Strand Road in Mawlamyine were damaged by a minor storm, according to sources close to the Myanma Port Authority.

The minor storm that crossed Mon State on the evening of September 28 brought heavy rain and strong winds across all townships in Mon State, including Mawlamyine, according to reports.

As a result, some jetties along Strand Road in Mawlamyine sustained damage, a source close to the department said.

“On the day the minor storm hit, there were strong winds and large waves on the Thanlwin River, causing damage to the Shwe Myaing floating jetty, locally known as Jetty No. 4, and the Thayet Taw floating jetty, where a floating bar is operated,” the source said.

The source added that a section ball at the Shwe Myaing floating jetty was dislodged by the waves and strong winds, although the ship-berthing fender did not drift away. At the Thayet Taw floating jetty, where the floating bar is located, some mooring cables came loose, causing the jetty structure to tilt.

On the morning of September 29, Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Win Than, state ministers and relevant departmental officials inspected the damage to the floating jetties caused by the minor storm. Chief Minister U Aung Win Than instructed the responsible officials to carry out the necessary repair and maintenance work as soon as possible.
