A 14-year-old boy remained missing after reportedly being swept into a drainage channel during heavy rainfall and flooding in Yangon’s Tamway Township on September 7, with search efforts set to continue in Pazundaung Creek, according to his family.

The boy was reportedly playing in a drain near the Tamway municipal staff housing compound on 154th Street with two friends when he was carried away by the strong current as heavy rain caused flooding in the area.

As of around midnight on September 7, the boy had not been found despite search efforts by rescue teams, firefighters, volunteers and relevant authorities.

“We still haven’t found him. The search teams and everyone else are helping with the search. They said they would continue searching in Pazundaung Creek in the morning,” a family member said on the night of September 7.

The boy is a resident of the municipal staff housing compound on 154th Street in Tamway Township.
