A man who returned from Yangon to Ye town in Mon State has tested positive for severe diarrheal disease, according to sources close to the Township Health Department.

The man was identified as 34-year-old U Chit Ko Ko, a resident of Thiri Khema Ward in Ye town. According to a source close to the Township Health Department, he went to Ye District People’s Hospital on the evening of August 14 after experiencing frequent diarrhea. Following an examination by the attending doctor, he tested positive using a cholera test kit and was diagnosed with severe diarrheal disease. He is currently receiving medical treatment.

The source said U Chit Ko Ko had stayed in Dala Township, Yangon Region, on August 7 before returning to his home in Ye on August 10 with two friends.

The source added that U Chit Ko Ko remains in good health while receiving treatment, while his two companions have been placed under quarantine and are being monitored.

To prevent the spread of the infection, the Township Health Team, ward administrative authorities and local social welfare and rescue organizations have sprayed chlorine disinfectant at U Chit Ko Ko’s residence and in the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, on August 13, a 59-year-old woman, Daw Htay Mon, who had returned from Yangon to Kyaikkhami in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, also tested positive for severe diarrheal disease. Daw Htay Mon, a resident of Shwe Kyin Kyaung Road in Yan Aung Myin Ward, Kyaikkhami, is receiving treatment at Kyaikkhami People’s Hospital. Nine family members who had contact with her have also been placed under quarantine and are being monitored.
