The Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo has announced that Myanmar citizens residing and working in Japan whose passports have been expired for five years or more must return to Myanmar to renew them.
The embassy issued the notice on August 12, stating that it provides consular services to Myanmar nationals in Japan both in person and by mail.
According to the announcement, applicants seeking to renew their Myanmar passports must return to Myanmar if they have failed to renew their passports for five years or longer. The embassy will issue a Certificate of Identity (C of I) to eligible individuals to facilitate their return to Myanmar for passport renewal.
The embassy also urged Myanmar nationals in Japan to renew their passports six months before their expiry dates to avoid such difficulties.
