Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing conducted aerial and ground inspections of flood-damaged areas in Ayeyawady Region following severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall and a breach in the Ngawun River embankment. The inundation affected residential neighborhoods and farmland across Lemyethna, Hinthada, Yekyi, and Kyonpyaw townships, displacing local residents to temporary shelters.

During his visit, he carried out aerial assessments of submerged villages, damaged crops, and relief camps along the Pathein River route toward Hinthada. He also inspected emergency engineering operations at the 25/3-mile post of the Ngawun River embankment, where multi-ministry teams and technical experts are deploying Geo Bags, Geo Textiles, and steel sheet piling to mitigate erosion and block deep-water flows.

In Hinthada Township, he met with displaced residents at the Lahapa Village monastery to distribute essential supplies and observe mobile medical teams providing healthcare. As part of the response, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provided K19.14 million in targeted cash assistance to vulnerable groups.

U Min Aung Hlaing instructed authorities to accelerate embankment repairs and streamline the delivery of aid to ensure a swift return to normalcy. To prevent future disaster risks, he urged the implementation of tree-planting programs—focusing on mangroves, acacia, and coconut trees—and regular maintenance of local river channels. He concluded by highlighting the critical role of education, urging parents to send their children back to school as soon as facilities reopen to support individual growth and long-term regional development.
