Flooding has been reported in five wards of Laymyethna and 106 villages across four townships as of August 5 following the breach of an embankment along the Ngawun River.

The embankment in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, was breached on the night of July 30 following heavy rainfall and erosion caused by rising river waters. As a result, floodwaters have entered five wards in Laymyethna, major roads in the town and 72 surrounding villages. Flooding has also affected 26 villages in Hinthada Township, six villages in Yaykyi Township and two villages in Kyonpyaw Township, bringing the total number of affected villages to 106.

According to information collected as of the evening of August 4 and released by the Information and Public Relations Bureau of the Office of the President, more than 30,000 people in Laymyethna Township have been affected by flooding caused by the damaged Ngawun River embankment.
