A high-voltage transmission line linking the Pakokku and Nyaungpin Gyi main substations was reportedly destroyed in an explosion on the evening of July 19, triggering a widespread power outage across towns in Pakokku District.

An official from the Pakokku Township Electricity Distribution Office announced on social media that a transmission tower on the Nyaungpin Gyi–Buddhakone high-voltage line had been blown up, leaving the entire town of Pakokku without electricity. The official warned that repairs could take a considerable amount of time.

A Pakokku resident said locals had initially assumed the outage was part of routine load shedding but later learned through Facebook that the blackout was caused by damage to the transmission line. The resident added that the prolonged outage would worsen water shortages and make it difficult for people to carry out daily activities at night, stressing that attacks on public electricity infrastructure should not occur.

According to local residents, the transmission line between Pakokku and the Nyaungpin Gyi main substation has suffered repeated disruptions in recent years due to the theft of transmission line components, which has caused towers to collapse, as well as explosions that have damaged power infrastructure, resulting in frequent electricity outages.
