Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein has announced that the current academic year will serve as a preparation period for private schools that do not yet meet the prescribed school characteristics and standards.

The Union Minister made the remarks at a meeting on July 13 with the Private School Supervisory Board and representatives of private colleges, international curriculum schools, and national curriculum schools.

She said that private schools failing to meet the required standards have been granted this academic year to make the necessary improvements and must complete all preparations before the next academic year. Schools are also required to meet the prescribed requirements for classroom numbers and campus size.

To enhance the quality of private school teachers, the Union Minister said that, beginning next academic year, teachers will be required to complete the Ministry of Education's nine-month Diploma in Education programme. Only those who successfully complete the programme will be eligible to apply for a Green Card.

She also instructed private schools to submit accurate student enrollment lists to the relevant township education offices in accordance with enrollment regulations. Action will be taken against private schools that report student enrollments without students actually attending classes.
